Battle of Britain Monument

Battle of Britain Monument Project

The Battle of Britain Monument project ran for three years culminating in the unveiling of the Monument by HRH Prince Charles on the Victoria Embankment in London, attended also by a number of members from our group who had participated in the project.

The project was commissioned by Lord Tebbit, who appointed our group members Sharon Pink and Phil Taylor to handle the PR and marketing programme, coordinated with the RAF and the Prince of Wales's Equerry and office at Clarence House.

The project also entailed developing and hosting the Battle of Britain Monument web site (www.bbm.org.uk) which was developed by group member Simon Cross and project managed by Phil Taylor, with content also developed by Sharon Pink. This contract followed a competitive tender process where our proposal was chosen by the fund-raising committee headed by Lord Tebbit.

For the Morris Singer foundry which created the bronze sections of the Monument, Sharon Pink led the team involvement on the commercial management side, with the following other regional team members brought in at appropriate stages:

  • Scott Goodson, Kvasir Consulting: business development.
  • Tiffany Kemp, Devant & Co: commercial terms & conditions and contracts development.
  • Connie Godfrey, ABC Consultants - managing the health & safety team.
  • Malcolm Caird - accounting and financial management services.
  • Andrew Wilks, Parker Wilks & Co - sales coaching.

Battle of Britain Monument Project

Throughout the Monument project I worked with members of the HelpingBusiness team. All my colleagues on the Committee and I were particularly impressed with their work on the web site development and by the way in which the team managed the publicity and promotional side of the Unveiling Ceremony and looked after the RAF Associations and the surviving veterans of the Battle.

They also wrote and designed the commemorative brochure for the day, which was greatly admired. We all enjoyed working with the team and by taking responsibility for so much that would otherwise have fallen to us, they not only did it better than we might have done, but they freed us up to do what we had to do in raising the money for the Monument.

Rt. Hon Lord Tebbit CH
